What inspired “Feeling Fab at 50”?

The inspiration for my journey to “Feeling Fab at 50” came from my own personal experiences and observations. I saw so many women, including myself, reaching a critical juncture in life. This phase often brought with it a profound sense of loss due to empty nest syndrome, the physical and emotional changes of menopause, the challenges of divorce, weight gain, and a struggle to maintain self-care and self-love after years of devotion to raising children and meeting their needs.

Additionally, it was a time when many of us had to put our careers on hold, and we felt adrift, not knowing where to begin again in our life journeys. This personal struggle and the shared experiences of many women in a similar situation inspired me to embark on the “Feeling Fab at 50” journey, seeking to address these challenges and empower women like me to rediscover our vitality and purpose in this exciting phase of life.

How did you transition from the media industry to property investment, and how does it connect with pro-aging?  Tell us about your property portfolio and what it takes to manage one like yours.

My transition from the media industry to property investment was a multifaceted journey deeply connected with the concept of pro-aging. I initially began my career in the corporate world within the media industry, working in roles involving sales, branding, marketing, and eventually management. However, a significant turning point in my life occurred when my second child was born. Recognising the profound importance of nurturing and raising two wonderful human beings, I made the deliberate choice to become a full-time mother.

As I dedicated myself wholeheartedly to this vital role, I soon realised the need to engage my intellect and stay mentally active. Consequently, my husband and I decided to utilise our pension funds to venture into our first buy-to-let investment property. This marked the genesis of our property investment portfolio. With its growth, so too did the hours and responsibilities associated with managing these properties. Over time, we outsourced these responsibilities to professional agents, which left me yearning for additional ways to contribute.

Driven by my enduring passion for health and well-being, I embarked on a challenging journey to establish my own brand of health supplements in 2015. This endeavour demanded relentless dedication, countless hours of solitary work, and a series of learning experiences, failures, and mistakes. Ultimately, it evolved into a successful venture, as I entered a partnership and began working with a dedicated team in London on our product line.

During this entrepreneurial journey, I initiated the “Pro-Age” and “Feeling Fab at 50” projects in 2019, despite not yet being 50 myself. I fondly recall my best friend’s teasing inquiry about my qualification to promote feeling fabulous at 50 when I hadn’t yet reached that milestone, which added a touch of humour to the journey.

Tragically, in the same year, I unexpectedly lost my dear best friend Lisa, who was just 54 years old. This devastating loss served as a catalyst for me to make a positive impact on the lives of women facing midlife transitions. My friend’s untimely passing prompted me to channel my grief into a mission to assist as many women as possible during what can be a challenging period in their lives. I wanted to do this in her memory and for those who, like her, might not have the opportunity to experience a fulfilling midlife.

What led to your passion for health, fitness, nutrition, and self-development?

My passion for health, fitness, nutrition, and self-development has deep roots in my life journey. I’ve been a regular gym-goer since my twenties and have had a fundamental understanding of health and nutrition from an early age. However, the true catalyst for my unwavering dedication to these areas came when I was 32, shortly after the birth of my second child. At that time, I received the diagnosis of an underactive thyroid, which came with the recommendation of a lifelong dependence on medication. Initially, I attributed my fatigue to the demands of motherhood, as I was caring for a newborn and a 4-year-old, with my husband working away during the week.

In response to this diagnosis, I delved into extensive research about my condition and its implications. It became clear that some of the symptoms, such as weight gain, a sluggish metabolism, fatigue, mental fogginess, and issues with body temperature regulation, were all facets of my daily life that I could no longer ignore. It was a turning point for me, and I resolved right then and there that I would take charge of my health.

I knew it wouldn’t be easy, but I was determined to regain control over my life. This marked the beginning of my fitness journey, as I committed to doing the necessary workouts to maintain good health and physical shape. Simultaneously, I embarked on a parallel journey of personal development because I quickly recognised that the foundation for achieving any of my health and fitness goals lay in the power of the mind. Without the right mindset, my body wouldn’t follow suit. For example, if I didn’t wake up with unwavering determination to hit the gym in the morning, my body wouldn’t willingly cooperate. Therefore, I made mindset my top priority.

For over two decades now, I’ve been on an ongoing personal development journey that I fully intend to continue until the end of my days. We are fortunate to have access to an abundance of information in this digital age, and I believe in the importance of continual growth, striving to become a better version of myself today than I was yesterday. In my view, if you’re not growing, you’re stagnating, and I am committed to a life of perpetual growth and self-improvement.

Our private label brand, LadyRejuve, is dedicated to enhancing the health and rejuvenation of women through a range of premium supplements designed specifically for their unique needs. Our products are formulated with one mission in mind: to make a lasting difference in the well-being of women.

Pro-aging, for me, revolves around the deliberate decision to embrace ageing with a positive outlook. This philosophy places a strong emphasis on health, fitness, and overall well-being as integral components of the journey.

Pro-aging is not merely about growing older; it’s about redefining and shaping the experience of midlife and beyond. It involves taking satisfaction in your own ageing process, which, in turn, can inspire the adoption of healthier habits and a sense of control over how you age.

While there are unquestionably challenges associated with this stage of life, the uniqueness of pro-aging lies in our accumulated knowledge and wisdom gained over the years. It’s an opportunity to uplift and support one another, drawing strength from our collective experiences and pursuing our dreams with renewed vigour. This approach to ageing is exciting because it shifts the narrative from mere ageing to a dynamic and empowering journey of self-discovery, growth, and fulfilment.
