Is Your Energy Costing You Clients?

The key to a powerful personal brand

By Olivia Janssens

“People feel your energy before you say a single word.”

People feel your energy before they’ve said two words to you. We call this charisma. “Successful women have charisma,” you hear. And yes, I believe that. But it’s not a trick — it’s palpable authenticity. Fully believing you have something valuable to offer with your mission and talents. Being connected to your heart and becoming a source of energy for others — even when you’re not ‘picture perfect’.

If you want to share your mission, you can’t sit quietly hoping the right people find you. You must be visible. Build a personal brand. And once you harness that charisma, you become magnetic — in the driver’s seat with your unique blend of mission, talents, confidence, and presence.

Why women struggle to show themselves

Many women struggle with visibility. Personal branding feels like putting yourself in a shop window shouting, “Look how amazing I am!” We’ve been taught modesty is a virtue. Talking about yourself? That’s bragging. So we stay small, wait for invitations, hope our work will ‘be noticed on its own’.

That doesn’t work. Your mission can be powerful, but if no one sees it, it stays stuck. Personal branding isn’t selling yourself — it’s becoming visible with your mission. Consistently expressing your values, sharing your vision, showing your energy. That builds trust. That’s how you claim leadership without pushing.

Energy + mission + visibility = charisma

When you speak, move, and choose from your mission, your energy becomes magnetic. You don’t impose. You don’t ‘sell’. People naturally feel: this is right.

It’s not perfection that attracts, but presence. Your courage to show yourself. Your willingness to say: “This is who I am.” And this isn’t reserved for “naturally charismatic types.” Everyone can do this. The more you stay true to yourself and your mission, the more naturally your energy radiates.

The balance between feminine and masculine energy

For years I thought masculine energy was for men, feminine for women. Until I discovered we all have both. They’re not tied to gender, but to ways of being.

Masculine energy is focused, action-oriented, purposeful. It makes plans, cuts decisions: “Let’s go.” Feminine energy is receptive, intuitive, connective. It senses, creates space: “Let’s feel.”

Both are valuable. Too much masculine? You become a bulldozer: results, yes, but creativity suffocates. Too much feminine? You dream endlessly without concrete action. Your ideas swirl, but lack drive to land.

Finding your balance

I was stuck in this for years. In corporate HR, I lived in masculine energy: analyzing, performing, hitting targets. But I parked my intuition. Later I dared tell clients what I intuitively felt — often hitting exactly what they needed.

In mentoring, I sat in soft feminine energy. Great for connection, but lacked firmness to push through. Magic began when I combined both: masculine for direction, feminine to feel. First sense, then decide. Not either/or, but both/and.

Clarify your energy

Ask yourself: which energy am I in most? Doer or dreamer? Where does one dominate — in calls, brainstorms, private life?

Then ask: what if I brought in the other energy to balance? Breathe before meetings. Structure after brainstorms. Small shifts create power.
