The Invisible Factor Behind Every Decision You Make, And Why It’s Shaping Your Success
By Laura Morrice
There is a level of leadership most women never realise they are operating within.
On the surface, everything appears aligned. You are capable, respected, and you make decisions every day that move your life and business forward.
And yet, there are moments that don’t quite add up.
You hesitate when you know what needs to be said. You over-explain a decision that should have been simple. You say yes when something in you already knows it should be a no.
Not because you lack clarity. But because something deeper is influencing the moment before the decision is made.
Most leadership conversations focus on strategy, mindset, or behaviour. Very few address the invisible factor driving all three. Your internal energetic baseline.
The Part of You That Decides Before You Do
Every decision you make is filtered through an internal system.
It is not random. It is patterned.
Long before you consciously choose, your system has already:
- assessed what feels safe
- predicted the potential outcome
- adjusted your response accordingly
This happens in seconds. Which means what feels like a “choice” is often a pre-conditioned response.
This is where many high-impact women begin to feel the quiet disconnect. Because logically, you know what you would like to do. But in the moment, your response doesn’t always reflect that.
You override yourself. You delay. You soften. You adapt.
Not because you are uncertain. But because your internal system has already decided what feels safest.
How Patterns Distort Leadership Without You Realising
These patterns are not obvious. They are refined, intelligent, and often socially rewarded.
Which is why they are so easy to miss.
For example:
- The woman who is decisive in business… but overthinks in her personal life
- The leader who holds strong boundaries with her team… but struggles to hold them in close relationships
- The high performer who delivers exceptional results… but constantly feels the need to justify or prove herself
From the outside, these appear as separate issues. They are not. They are different expressions of the same underlying pattern.
What changes is the environment. What remains consistent is the internal driver.
This is where most approaches fall short. They treat each situation individually:
- communication skills
- confidence building
- boundary setting
But without understanding the pattern beneath it, the behaviour simply reshapes itself.
Same pattern. Different context.
Why Awareness Alone Doesn’t Change This
Many women reading this will already have a high level of awareness.
You know when something feels off. You recognise your triggers. You can often articulate what’s happening in real time.
And yet, the pattern still runs. This is where awareness reaches its limit. Because awareness notices the pattern. But it does not explain:
- where it originates
- how it operates
- or how to change it at the root
Without that level of understanding, the system defaults back to what is familiar. Which is why insight alone rarely creates lasting change.
Energetic Literacy: Understanding the System Behind the Behaviour
What shifts this is not more effort. It is precision.
The ability to understand your internal system with clarity. This is where energetic literacy becomes essential.
The chakra system, when understood beyond surface-level interpretation, provides a map of this internal architecture.
Not as a belief system. But as a framework for recognising how different patterns form and express themselves.
For example:
- A pattern rooted in safety can create control, defensiveness, or difficulty trusting others
- A pattern rooted in self-worth can show up as over-giving, people-pleasing, or staying in misaligned situations
- A pattern rooted in self-trust can lead to hesitation, overthinking, or second-guessing decisions
These are not personality traits. They are patterned responses within the system.
Once you can identify them, you begin to see something powerful:
Your behaviour is not random. It is predictable. And what is predictable can be changed.
A Simple Exercise: Observe Your Decision Pattern
You don’t need to analyse your entire life to begin. Start with one moment.
The next time you are about to make a decision, pause. Ask yourself:
“What did I feel just before I responded?”
Not what you thought. What you felt.
Then ask:
“Did that feeling expand me, or contract me?”
Expansion often feels clear, steady, and grounded. Contraction often feels tight, urgent, or uncertain. Most importantly:
“Did I respond from clarity, or from managing that feeling?”
This is where the pattern reveals itself. Not in the decision. But in the moment just before it.
The Shift Into Self-Governed Leadership
Leadership at the highest level is not about controlling outcomes. It is about understanding what is influencing you before you act.
When you can recognise your internal patterns:
- your decisions become cleaner
- your communication becomes more direct
- your boundaries become consistent across all areas of life
You are no longer reacting. You are choosing. This is what self-governance looks like in practice.
Not perfection. Not constant certainty. But the ability to hold your position without being unconsciously moved away from it.
Where to Begin
Most women try to solve this through effort.
More thinking. More strategy. More discipline.
But without understanding the pattern driving your behaviour, effort will always have a ceiling. The starting point is identification. Seeing the pattern clearly enough that it can no longer operate unnoticed.
If you want to begin that process, I’ve created a Chakra Pattern Diagnostic that will help you identify the dominant pattern influencing your decisions, behaviour, and results.
It takes a few minutes, but the clarity it provides often explains years of repetition.
Because once you can see the system, you are no longer operating inside it unconsciously.
And that is where real change begins.
