5 tips to start believing in yourself

                                                           By Maini Homer

You know, I spent 40 years of my life not believing in myself. Even though I’ve been pretty successful in business, my lack of self-belief held me back more than once. This lack of self-belief caused me to self – sabotage. It caused procrastination. It stopped me from putting excellent work out that could have changed the lives of thousands. This lack of self-belief really controlled my life. I had ideas, big ideas. Some of them I even got as far as implementing. But then, a simple comment from someone, or a perceived look from another would have me shutting it all down, as quickly as it had gone up. Having a lack of self-belief comes with many fears attached to it, such as worrying about what others will say and think of you, the fear of failure, and the fear of success. Another symptom of low self-belief is what we call “imposter syndrome”. This is when you may be really good at something, and you may even get complimented on it, yet you do not believe it yourself. It took me years to work out what the actual problem was. What many do not realise is, that self-belief comes from trust. Trusting in your own abilities. Believing you are good enough and worthy enough of success. Through my training, and my experiences over many years, I found the answers I needed to truly believe in myself, and I would love to share these answers with you now.

Admitting you may need help

Let me assure you: if you have this problem, you are far from alone. There are so many people in the world today, who do not believe in themselves, and many of them spend their entire lives with these beliefs. You do not have to, though. The first step to building your “self-belief muscle” is being open and admitting that you have the problem. Many people are so afraid of admitting it, that they’ll do anything they can to hide it. That’s because they are so concerned about what other people will think if they reveal this truth about themselves. This leads them to settle in life and they never achieve the things they truly could achieve, or want to achieve.

Being prepared to do something about it

After you’ve surrendered to it, and admitted that you may need some help in this area, you are preparing to do something about it. Again, this can be a stumbling block for many people because they think it’s “shameful” to have this issue. They think it makes them inferior. So even if deep down, they know they have it, people may choose what they perceive as the easier path and not do anything about it.

Take action

If you took action, though, and worked with a professional NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programmer) to clear out their negative emotions and limiting beliefs, the freedom they would feel would be euphoric. By choosing to take action and work on your mindset, you are putting yourself on the pathway to success. The greatest people in the world know that the true secret to success is a strong mindset. Tony Robbins says that business success is 80% mindset and only 20% mechanics. I agree with this wholeheartedly.

Continuously building a strong mindset

The next most important thing is that, once you do the work, keep doing the work. Building a strong mindset is the same as building any muscle. If you stop working on it, you will go back to the way it was. You may not go back as far as you were; yet you could lose a lot of the progress you’ve gained, and those pesky limiting beliefs could sneak their way back in.

Love yourself for who you are

My final tip would be to learn embracing yourself for who you are. You are human. You may have some things to sort out. But if you do something about them, you are 100 steps in front of many who do not.

Hence, do not beat yourself up a moment longer. Remember this: your past does not equal your future. You really can do anything you want in this life.

Building your self-belief is just a skill set; an outcome. You can get this by working with a professional NLP practitioner and doing the work required. Yes, it may be scary at first, and it may even make you feel uncomfortable. If you take the steps forward and do what is necessary, though, the freedom you will feel afterwards will be well worth the effort.

I cannot stress it enough: you really can have EVERYTHING you want in life… you just have to believe you can!
