How did your upbringing help to shape who you are today?
I started singing at the age of 5.
It was my family who saw the talent in me and believed that I could became a singer, so they supported me from the beginning.
Of course i have worked very much to become a well known artist because I love music and I love singing most of all.
When I was 16 years old I worked every day for at least 4 years to shape my voice and to know the best techniques of singing.
Do you feel that you chose your “passion”, or did it choose you?
It is 100% true that I chose my passion because I had the gift.
What inspires you to sing, to be creative, to bring new projects on stage every year?
I can’t imagine myself without singing even for just one day. I can’t imagine not being on stage, sharing my emotions and music with everyone.
The fans inspire me to work hard because they give me so much warmth and love.
I understand that you always wanted to prove yourself in your own right. What achievements in your career are you proudest of?
Of course one of my biggest achievements is Eurovion 2010. To represent my country in a big competition like Eurovision was a great responsibility.
I’ve never felt more proud than the moment when they called my name and Albania on stage.
What is your advice for a young woman that wants to make it in singing?
I think that everyone with the talent of singing can become a great artist if they can work hard everyday. Don’t change yourself for the sake of becoming big, but be yourself because the audience knows how to make the difference between a fake and a real artist.
During the past few years, music industry has been shaken by a new wave of embracing different music types, commercial music etc. As you started your music career before this shift, what is your opinion on this topic?
I have changed my mind many times through the years. At first I always thought that good music was losing its roots but now I think that we live in a time where the music knows no limits and there is a place for everyone. To try and to refresh myself is the best think I can do to be on trend.
I’m interested in your musical roots – which musicians and songwriters have been the greatest influence?
I have always been a fan of the greatest singers of all times like Aretha Franklin or Tina Turner etc.
You can see that I love great voices because they always make the difference.
What are your favorite albums?
My favorite album that I listen from time to time is Adele 21’.
Who are your favorite current songwriters or musicians? Can you turn our readers on to someone they may not have heard of yet?
My favorite songwriter and musician has always been Ardit Gjebrea.
What challenges did you face in breaking into the professional singing arena? Was it difficult as a woman?
The biggest challenge for a singer in Albania is that we have to do everything by ourselves.
The management, finding the right songs, working for the music video ect… I have been very lucky to have my husband by my side from the beginning. He does everything for me so that I can concentrate on my work.
What are your plans & hopes for the future regarding your music?
I am working on some new songs. I just released a new hit this summer and in September i will release another song. I am thinking of being a part of Kenga Magjike this year, too.
What are the steps that you would encourage women to take to empower themselves?
Don’t lose hope. Always try and work with your voice because voice is the best weapon for a woman, singer or not.
Find the right people who can bring up the best of you.
What is your vision for the women of your country? What is your dream for them, and what are your expectations of them?
Albanian woman is a strong woman, indipendent and creative. But we have to be more supportive of each other so that we can make a change not only for ourselves but also in society.
Global Woman is a platform for empowering women. In your opinion, what are the qualities of an empowered woman? And how can women be empowered while maintaining their femininity?
I think that when femininity is mixed with strength, dignity, a hardworker, or even a beauty inside and out, then everyone will respect woman in their working place, at home, on stage, on streets etc.
If we think small for ourselves, then everyone around us will see us as small and incapable of accomplishing anything. We have to think big in order to empower ourselves.
