Can you tell us more about your early life and your first steps in business?
I was working for an international company in Albania and I feel grateful for the opportunity because they learned and developed the skills I have today. Five years ago I decided to launch my own company. Nobody ever said that starting a company would be easy! But if you have an idea that you just can’t wait to bring to life, take it from me, it’s one hundred percent worth it to turn that dream into a reality.
In a real sense, when you run your own business, you really come to know what you are made of.
The kind of adversities that you face on a daily basis help you become more aware of you as a person, and also helps you grow phenomenally. When you start working for yourself, you have nobody to fall back on. You have no option but to work on your weaknesses in order to make your business grow. It, however, lasts only if there is enough passion and determination to succeed. As human beings, we are all self-centered to some extent. We are conditioned to believe that securing the outer comforts of life will give us enduring joy and lasting fulfillment. Whereas in reality, everything is impermanent and transient.
If we embrace what is, let go of what was, and become more selfless and service-driven in our actions, then contentment and fulfillment will be the natural rewards. It sounds simple, but it is not always easy to integrate. The secret, I believe, lay in achieving integration in small steps.
Do you believe that success depends more on what you know than on whom you know?
They are both important because the ‘what you know’ and ‘who you know’ are what makes one reach the top and succeed in this life. However, to choose between the two I think that “What you know” (knowledge) is the most important because it is with you, everlasting, while “Who you know” (People) may not be there all the time and in most cases may even disappoint when the need is great. “What you know” would often lead you to the “Who you know” most of the time.
Why is it important for companies to innovate and invest in modern technologies?
“Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.” Steve Jobs
Innovation is the leading force of competitiveness, of growth, of profitability and of the creation of durable values. Although it can be easily included in the product or technology development category, this refers to a fundamental challenge for the entire business, and, as such, it must stand for a continuous process. At the same time, innovation is one of the greatest opportunities for marketing specialists to leave their mark on the organization. To take fundamental endeavours based on the profound understanding of the opportunities presented by the market and the clients’ needs, to overcome the functional role and to collaborate with all the company’s employees, to be close to the strategic challenges and opportunities, with a long-lasting effect.
The companies that have success and register the quickest growth are those that use, in their daily activity, innovative solutions, and it is particularly for this reason that a signification percentage of their income is generated by new or quality improved products and services.
What advice can you give to companies looking to make the most out of their investments in innovation centres?
- Create a supportive atmosphere in which people feel free to express their ideas without the risk of criticism or ridicule
- Improve productivity
- Adding value to existing products, services or markets to differentiate the business from its competitors and increase the perceived value to the customers and markets
- Build the value of your brand
- Reward innovation and celebrate success. Appropriate incentives can play a significant role in encouraging staff to think creatively.
