Why is Now the Time We Start Caring
By Srishti Kapoor
We are experiencing a world crisis of huge dimensions at the moment. The virus has taken over our lives and all of us are going through negative emotions of panic, depression, stress, loneliness, fear, anxiety, and despair. This could be the first time we as a global community understand each other and relate more than ever before. What we don’t know is many women are going through these emotions and fighting to live every day. Research has shown that women are the first victims of armed conflict, violence, and wars. There are a few charitable organisations which help women to get their life back to normal. Let’s take a look at the efforts of the Intisar Foundation which is the first charity organisation in the Middle East that provides psychological support to Arabic women affected by the trauma of war. They do this through the therapeutic approach of Drama Therapy, which uses dance, movement, and acting to release tension and heal trauma.

The core team members of Intisar Foundation recently published a book called Circle of Love. It explores the inspirational stories of 87 powerful women from all around the world. It features women of all backgrounds, from models, entrepreneurs and designers, to artists, refugee survivors, poets, and princesses. Each one has dedicated their life to supporting vulnerable groups in society. They spend their time, energy, and effort in helping others. Their agenda is to foster change in order to make the world a better place and put a smile on someone’s face. Yet, they ask for nothing in return.
While we are all busy in our daily lives, millions of people are struggling with discrimination, sickness, intellectual disabilities, war trauma, violence, illiteracy, homelessness, poverty, and malnutrition. The women in Circle of Love have a vision that one day these problems will vanish from our society and we will all live together in equality and peace. Within this group of women, some are dedicated to causes such as fighting anti-Arab discrimination, extremism, and anti-Muslim sentiment. We are living in a world of problems that can be easily ignored but these women strive to put an end to the inequality that has caused many people to suffer through hardships.
In addition to helping others, Circle of Love also highlights women that are raising their voices on global warming, sustainable travel modes, and advocating for sustainable fashion. They realise the damages could be irreversible and they have dedicated their lives to heal the planet. The Earth is not only the structure we live on, but it is a mega being as alive as any other living organism. Taking our Mother Earth for granted is one of the biggest issues we deeply need to address. Only when we recognise it as a conscious being, will we then realise to treat it with the importance it deserves.
Humans have taken over the planet so much that we now only believe in survival of the fittest. Just when we take a step back and start self-isolating we observe drastic changes around us. The birds are chirping louder, the water is cleaner, the air is getting purified, the dolphins and swans are back, and many animals are roaming freely on the road. Maybe we completely forgot that we consume water and breathe the air. Now when the change is happening we feel better but when we were polluting the environment we couldn’t care less. What makes us human is the consciousness, empathy, the connection, the love we can feel for others, and all the animals. What makes us different from all the other beings is that we have the ability to choose and make a decision. It’s time, we should globally decide to implement change or we can wait for the next time Earth again starts reclaiming its space.
We have been staying in a state of ignorance, occupied within our own lives, and only focusing on what we find immediately relevant to us. However, it is critical to consciously understand that issues exist. Only when we consciously pay attention to things outside of ourselves and consider others will we then be able to make a positive difference together.
