As an expert in improving organizational performance, what key factors have you identified that contribute to the success of entrepreneurial businesses?
The most key factor that contributes to the success of a business, in my opinion, is the ability to embrace change. The world of entrepreneurship and business is filled with opportunities and challenges that constantly evolve. Those who can adapt quickly, seize new opportunities, and pivot when necessary are the ones who thrive. Embracing change also means that a business will never become complacent, and will continue to adapt and improve while experiencing success, instead of waiting for something to fix – something I call changing on the way up.
Could you share some insights into how enhancing motivation, communication, and agility within organisations can lead to tangible business impact?
I am a firm believer that in order to run a high-performing organisation, every member needs to have a belief and vision that they can do what is asked of them. Things like poor communication, a lack of confidence or poor processes – like time management – can get in the way of this and cause communication to break down, and tasks to get dropped.
By addressing these challenges head-on and cultivating a culture of motivation, communication, and agility, through upbeat methodology and actionable takeaways, organizations can unlock their full potential and become a high-performing team, which at the end of the day, all comes down to mindset.
Being recognised with an MBE for your services to entrepreneurship is a remarkable achievement. What inspired you to dedicate your career to supporting and empowering entrepreneurs?
The statistic that only 10% of startups succeed was the initial spark that ignited my passion for supporting and empowering entrepreneurs. It struck me deeply that so many brilliant ideas and innovative ventures were falling short of their potential. I saw an opportunity to make a difference—to challenge the status quo and rewrite the narrative for aspiring entrepreneurs. I dedicated myself to providing the guidance, resources, and support they needed to navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship and turn their visions into reality, helping them transform their businesses from start-ups, to multi-million-pound turnovers. When I received the MBE in 2020, It reinforced my commitment to continue pushing boundaries, and empowering entrepreneurs.
It was around this time that I discovered ‘Intrapreneurship’ the art of thinking like an entrepreneur in a larger organisation, and how this can benefit corporate companies. This changed the direction of my journey, which is now focused on helping large organisations build the ultimate high performing teams.
As a sought-after media contributor, what topics or issues are you most passionate about sharing with audiences, and why?
I am ultimately passionate about helping people to SMASH IT. Whether it’s an entrepreneur looking to grow their business, a member of an organisation looking to build stronger relationships, or someone just looking for some confidence to achieve their goals. These scenarios light a fire within me because I firmly believe that within every challenge lies an opportunity for transformation. Through my work as a media contributor, I am on a mission to empower individuals and organizations alike with the tools, insights, and motivation they need to conquer obstacles, unleash their potential, and SMASH IT! in their personal and professional life’s.
In your experience, what are some common challenges that entrepreneurs face when trying to improve performance within their organizations, and how do you advise them to overcome these challenges?
The most common challenge I see in entrepreneurs is not building a strong enough foundation around their procedures and policies. Just like building a house, without a sturdy foundation, you’re setting yourself up for potential collapse down the line. I’ve encountered numerous entrepreneurs who, in their eagerness to grow, neglect this crucial step. They might experience initial success, but when it comes time to scale, they’re hit with a barrage of problems stemming from their lack of foundational structure.
Entrepreneurs need to prioritize the establishment of a strong foundation. Take the time to meticulously craft your procedures and policies, ensuring they’re tailored to your specific business needs. By laying down solid groundwork early on, you’re not only mitigating risks but also setting yourself up for sustainable growth and long-term success.
Looking ahead, what are your goals and aspirations for the future of your career in supporting and uplifting entrepreneurs, both locally and globally?
My ultimate goal is to empower even more individuals to SMASH IT! Whether it’s through expanding my reach as a speaker, author, or mentor, I’m committed to equipping individuals with the tools, knowledge, and inspiration they need to overcome obstacles and achieve their dreams.
