Katie Rowley: Shining a New Light on Longevity

Katie Rowley is on a mission to bring the science of red light therapy out of clinics and into everyday homes. As the founder of London Light Therapy, she combines advanced technology with elegant simplicity, offering devices that support everything from skin vitality and hair health to joint comfort, muscle recovery, and overall energy. With a background in finance and a passion for holistic wellness, Katie is redefining self-care—making it not just about beauty, but about lasting resilience and longevity.

What inspired you to start London Light Therapy?

I’ve always been fascinated by natural ways to support health and wellness. When I discovered red light therapy, I was amazed at the amount of science behind it and how it could support the body at such a deep level. Dementia and Alzheimer’s run in my family, so I became determined to explore therapies that could support brain health and help not only me but also anyone who has this in their family. That personal drive, combined with the proven science of light, inspired me to build London Light Therapy.

How did you go from working in finance to building a wellness brand?

My background in finance (payroll) gave me the skills to be detail-oriented, structured, and business-minded. But I was always drawn to wellness and lifestyle. For me, London Light Therapy became the perfect way to bring my professional discipline together with my passion for creating something meaningful that genuinely improves people’s lives.

What was your first personal experience with light therapy like?

It was eye-opening. I started using red light for energy and recovery, and I noticed how much better I felt, less fatigued, more resilient, and with healthier looking skin. It gave me the motivation to keep exploring and eventually build products that could deliver those benefits to others.

For someone new to it, how would you explain what red light therapy does in simple terms?

I describe it as “charging your body’s batteries.” Red and near-infrared light help your cells produce more energy, which allows your body to repair, restore, and function better. It’s completely non-invasive, and you just sit or stand near the light for a few minutes to give your body that boost.

What makes your devices different from others out there?

Our panels are among the only devices that combine eight different wavelengths, from 480 nm up to 1060 nm. That means they don’t just work on the surface but can penetrate to different depths in the skin and tissues, reaching areas that single- or dual-wavelength devices can’t. They also have a high irradiance, so they’re powerful enough to target deeper tissues, which is especially beneficial for joint pain, muscle recovery, and even neurological health. On top of that, we focus heavily on education, making sure people know exactly how to use them properly at home.

Why is it important for you to make light therapy easy to use at home?

Not everyone has the time or money to book regular clinic sessions, but everyone deserves access to treatments that can improve their quality of life. By making the devices simple to use at home, people can create a routine that works for them—whether it’s for skin, recovery, joint comfort, or just daily vitality.

What kind of changes have you seen in people who use your products?

We have seen people experience less joint pain, quicker muscle recovery, improved skin tone, better sleep, and even renewed energy. For me, the most meaningful stories are when people share improvements in cognitive clarity and overall mood, which is something very close to my heart given my own family history with dementia/alzheimers.

What’s the biggest myth or misunderstanding about light therapy you’d like to clear up?

That it’s just for beauty. While it’s amazing for skin and hair health if using the right wavelength and irradiance, the truth is that red and infrared light go much deeper. They work on a cellular level, supporting energy production and circulation throughout the body. It’s really about whole-body wellness—including brain, muscles, joints, and longevity.

How do you see light therapy becoming part of people’s daily routines in the future?

Just like people use moisturisers or take vitamins, I see light therapy becoming a daily or weekly ritual. A quick 10–15 minutes in front of the light can be as normal as making your morning coffee. It’s about weaving it into life in a way that feels natural and sustainable.

What keeps you motivated on your journey with London Light Therapy?

The stories I hear from people. When someone tells me they feel less pain, or they’ve got their energy back, or their skin has transformed, it reminds me why I started. With my own family’s health history in mind, I know how important it is to keep searching for solutions that genuinely make a difference. Building a business is never easy, but knowing that it empowers people to live healthier and more confident lives keeps me motivated every day.
