Why Sting Taps Before a Gig, and What It Teaches Us About Our Own Wellbeing

A short video has quietly made its way around the internet showing Sting and Trudie Styler backstage before a concert, tapping on their acupressure points with complete focus. No entourage crowding them, no dramatic warm up rituals. Just gentle, rhythmic tapping. For many people it looked unusual. For those of us who work with the subconscious mind and the nervous system every day, it made perfect sense.

Because EFT tapping is not a celebrity fad. It is a science backed method for calming the body, clearing emotional static and restoring clarity. And if a global icon like Sting uses it to get himself into the right state before stepping onto a stage, it tells you something powerful. It tells you that even the most successful people still need tools that support their emotional wellbeing.

So why might Sting be tapping before a gig he has performed hundreds of times? The answer lies in the way the nervous system works. Your brain does not distinguish between danger and pressure. It only distinguishes between safe and unsafe. When you stand in front of thousands of expectant faces, the subconscious naturally heightens alertness. Even experienced performers can feel adrenaline rise, the breath shorten and old insecurities try to surface. EFT works directly with the stress response. The tapping sends calming signals to the amygdala, helping the body shift out of fight or flight and back into balance.

EFT also supports creativity. When we are stressed, the prefrontal cortex becomes less effective. This is the part of the brain responsible for decision making, intuition and flow. Many performers, leaders and athletes tap because it brings them back into that sweet spot where things feel effortless. Calm body, clear mind, open heart.

On a more spiritual level, tapping creates a moment of reconnection. It clears the emotional noise that builds up through the day and brings you back to yourself. I often describe it as tuning your inner instrument. If your energy is scattered, your performance, your communication and your presence can feel scattered too. When your energy is aligned, everything flows.

I see this every week with clients. From women juggling work and family demands to teams in high pressure industries, the shift is the same. Tension drops. Perspective widens. The mind becomes more resourceful. And that is why EFT is becoming a widely used tool not only for anxiety and stress, but for confidence, clarity and emotional resilience.

Top Tip:

Before a meeting, presentation or conversation that feels uncomfortable, sit somewhere quiet and tap gently just below your collar bone while taking a slow breath in through the nose and out through the mouth. Even thirty seconds can signal to your nervous system that you are safe, which makes your thoughts clearer and your emotions steadier.

Watching Sting tap was not a novelty. It was a reminder that wellbeing is not about being unshakeable. It is about knowing how to bring yourself back into balance. If a world class performer still chooses to regulate his emotional state before stepping into the spotlight, imagine what it could do for your confidence, your relationships, your decisions and your daily sense of inner steadiness.

If you would like to learn EFT properly and become certified to use it with clients, colleagues or simply for your own transformation, my next EFT Practitioner Training takes place in January. If you feel the pull, now is the time. Your future clients might be waiting.
