What made you fall in love with the idea that water can heal?

As a home birth midwife, I’ve always believed that many complications during birth stem from an belief environment that suggests danger and demands constant intervention. Hospitals, with their well meant monitoring and interventions, often interrupt the natural process, leading to a self-fulfilling prophecy where often fear rather than reality leads to complications that require intervention. In contrast, I’ve witnessed hundreds of births in peaceful, supportive environments where women draw on their inner strength and allow their bodies to lead. These experiences taught me that the right environment enables healing.
This insight deepened when I studied natural medicine at Quantum University, where the focus again was on creating conditions that support the body’s ability to heal itself. Influential thinkers like Dr. Joe Dispenza and Dr. Bruce Lipton also emphasise the role of environment, mindset, and stress reduction in healing.
The quality of our water that is the direct environment within and around the cells of our body has turned out to be one of the most overlooked environmental factors. I was shocked to learn how many harmful substances are present in today’s tap and bottled water. Contaminated water not only introduces toxins but it also prevents natural detoxification which is a dangerous spiral. Many people I encounter are chronically dehydrated although they drink enough, leading to high histamine levels, fatigue, and organ stress. Once I started drinking clean, structured water, I noticed immediate changes: improved energy, clearer thinking, and reduced menopausal symptoms. My clients report similar improvements, from balanced blood pressure to relief from kidney and bladder issues.
Dr. Batmanghelidj’s book “You’re Not Sick, You’re Thirsty” opened my eyes even further to the powerful impact of proper hydration on our health.
How did working with women during birth open your eyes to the power of hydration?
Midwifery makes it clear: we are beings of water. Babies grow in amniotic fluid for nine months. Water births often feel natural and calming to women in Labor. When a mother weakens during labor, offering her water is one of the first things we do. Hydration is essential for muscle function and overall health.
Babies are up to 85% water, adults around 70%. It’s easy to see how deeply the quality of water affects our well-being.
What was it like being part of your grandchildren’s births—and how did water play a role?
It was an honour to support my daughter during the births of her children. Her complete trust in both the process and in me as a midwife moved me deeply. Two of my three grandchildren were born into warm birth pools at home. It was peaceful, powerful, and heartwarming.
How can drinking the right kind of water support women during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or menopause?
During pregnancy, blood volume increases by about 20%, and blood is mostly water. The body undergoes massive adaptations requiring energy and hydration. Clean, structured, and energised water can support kidney function, reduce bladder infections and swelling, and even ease morning sickness and fatigue.
Proper hydration also aids digestion and nutrient absorption—critical during pregnancy to supply both the mother and the developing baby with essential nutrients. It supports the formation of amniotic fluid, helps regulate body temperature, and reduces the risk of constipation, which is often common during pregnancy.
During breastfeeding, many women who struggle with milk supply may simply be dehydrated. Herbal teas and juices don’t hydrate the body the way pure water does. True hydration comes only from clean, bioavailable water. Hydration also plays a key role in maintaining hormone balance and preventing fatigue or dizziness during this demanding time.
In menopause, hydration can ease symptoms like hot flashes, dryness, sleeping problems, while also supporting mental clarity and emotional stability.
Why do you think most people don’t realise how important water quality is?
I was unaware myself for many years. We’re told tap water is safe and cheaper than bottled water. While it might not make us immediately sick, it often contains contaminants not routinely monitored—out of some 30,000 known contaminants, only about 30–50 are regularly tested and bottled water is even tested on even less.
PFAS, hormone residues, and pharmaceuticals have been detected in municipal water, but removing them at a public level would be costly and ineffective due to recontamination through old pipes.
Even bottled water is problematic. Plastic bottles leach endocrine disruptors and toxins, and microplastics are now found even in glass bottles. The industry prioritizes profit, not health. A recent scandal involving Nestlé in France revealed illegal purification of mineral water—highlighting just how little oversight exists.
What’s more, the bottled water industry has spent decades convincing us that highly mineralised water supports our health. This is misleading. In reality, water with a low mineral content has the highest bioavailability. Our cells absorb water through osmosis, and only water with minimal mineral load can easily pass through cell membranes. So while heavily mineralised water may sound beneficial, it often puts an unnecessary burden on our system and fails to hydrate effectively. We get our minerals from organically grown food and high quality supplements – water on the other hand is a means of transportation and detoxification and not meant to deliver minerals. Water should be a close to water how nature is providing it to us (without the toxins we have put in the environment) and this is low mineral, ph neutral vital and structured water. Our bodies thrive on that.
People simply aren’t being told the truth, and it takes awareness to question the status quo.
Can better hydration help us age more gracefully?
Absolutely. Skin, our largest detox organ, relies on proper hydration. I’ve seen skin improve in days with the switch to pure and structured water. The brain, composed of 85% water, needs hydration for optimal function. Chronic dehydration has been linked to constipation, allergies, headaches, joint stiffness, and even diseases like dementia and diabetes type II.
Dr. Batmanghelidj’s research suggests many age-related issues result from long-term dehydration.
Additionally, good hydration can support better sleep, hormone regulation, and improved circulation—key factors in maintaining vitality and preventing premature aging. It also reduces inflammation in the body, a major contributor to age-related diseases. Proper hydration improves joint lubrication, supports detox organs like the liver and kidneys, and helps maintain muscle tone and energy levels as we age. Even mood and cognitive function benefit significantly when the body is properly hydrated.
What’s something small families can do at home to improve their water?
Stop buying bottled water. Invest in a high-quality water filtration system instead.
A proper system should include both pre-filtration and reverse osmosis. Most systems don’t do what they promise and many are built cheaply with low quality components but sold at premium prices.
Beware of storage tanks—they’re breeding grounds for bacteria and mould. I offer free consultations and water tests to help families make informed decisions.
Key tips :
- Carbon filters alone are not enough.
- Look for a system that combines pre-filtration with reverse osmosis & restructuring of the water
- Vitalisation, pH, materials used after purification (plastic is not a good choice), country of origin, and long-term maintenance costs, warranty.
What signs does the body give when it’s not getting good water?
Signs of chronic dehydration may include:
- Constipation
- Dry skin
- Kidney/bladder infections or stones
- Brain fog
- Fatigue
- Migraines or headaches
- Joint stiffness
- Allergies
The more symptoms you recognise, the more likely hydration is a root issue. While these signs can have various causes, starting with sufficient hydration with good quality water is often the simplest and most effective step.
If someone wants to start paying more attention to hydration, what’s one simple thing they could do today?
Track how much water you drink over three days. The general recommendation is 30ml per kg of body weight per day for a person with a sitting job. With physical activity and during summer months you easily need more.
If you’re relying on tap or bottled water, book a consultation to check its quality and explore better options. If you have a water filter already, let’s test it to see if your water filter does it’s job.
Start your day with a large glass of clean, room-temperature water before coffee or breakfast—this activates digestion and supports detoxification.
Carry a refillable glass or stainless steel water bottle with you throughout the day as a visual reminder to stay hydrated.
Set reminders on your phone or use hydration tracking apps to build consistency.
Replace one sugary drink per day with a glass of clean water. It’s a small step with big health benefits.
What’s your biggest hope when it comes to sharing your message about water and health?
I hope to raise awareness about the vital role water plays in our health. Investing in a high-quality filtration system is one of the most impactful decisions you can make—and in the long term, the most economical.
