From Hair Loss to Healing: How Johanna Dahlman is Biohacking Hope for Women Everywhere
“You are unlimited potential—keep going.”
— Johanna Dahlman, Founder of Alopecia Angel
As a columnist for Global Woman Magazine, I’ve shared many stories from my own path in wellness and entrepreneurship—but just as important is shining a light on other powerful women making a real difference in the world. When I met Johanna Dahlman, known as The Alopecia Angel, her story deeply moved me.
This isn’t just about hair loss—it’s about agency. About identity. About unlocking the body’s natural ability to heal when the traditional systems say “there’s no cure.” Johanna’s transformation is living proof that with the right knowledge, biohacking tools, and relentless belief, we can rewrite our future—one strand at a time.
HER STORY & WHY IT MATTERS
What inspired your journey into the world of health, biohacking, or longevity?
I was diagnosed with alopecia areata in my early 30s when I was already fit, trim, and living my best life in Miami—or so I thought. I believed I was the healthiest person in my family. So when I was diagnosed, I was shocked. Perplexed. Devastated.
After healing my alopecia naturally—which took over three grueling years—I became obsessed with doing things the right way. Holistically. Fully. Mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Now in my 40s, biohacking is simply a natural part of how I live: thriving in all areas, proactively avoiding blind spots.
“Healing hair loss was painful, but it became my purpose.”
What was the “aha” moment that fueled your mission?
It was the moment I was googling “alopecia” in a hair salon and saw: no cure, no hope, no success stories. That hit hard. As I began to heal, I knew others needed guidance. This wasn’t just hair loss—it was a loss of self, identity, certainty. When I woke up one morning and felt something shift—I knew I was getting better. And that’s when the vision for Alopecia Angel was born.
How has being a woman shaped your approach in this industry?
Hair is more than aesthetic—it’s identity. It’s part of who we are. I have big curly hair, and it’s been my signature since puberty. I wasn’t about to lose that. As a woman who’s healed herself, I feel deeply called to support others—especially women and children—who are silently struggling. This is about more than hair. It’s about coming back to yourself.
INNOVATION, IMPACT & EXPERTISE
What sets your work apart in the wellness/biohacking space?
My global perspective. I’ve lived in six countries and five U.S. states, speak three languages, and I understand the red tape around healthcare worldwide. I provide international functional medicine testing—a massive value to clients abroad. I’ve helped clients with all types of hair loss, including:
- Autoimmune (areata, totalis, universalis)
- Female pattern baldness
- Postpartum, telogen effluvium
- Hormonal, thyroid-related
- Long COVID and more
When people are told “there’s nothing you can do,” they come to me. And they get results.
“90% of clients see hair growth in just 8 weeks or less.”
What tools or modalities do you believe are changing the game?
Wellness centers, med spas, and boutique biohacking clinics are making once-elite tools accessible to everyone. From PEMF to infrared saunas, we’re democratizing healing—and that’s a massive win.
How do you ensure your approach stays grounded in science?
Everything is based on personalized biology. We run gold-standard tests and measure individual progress week by week. Real-time results. Scientific integrity. Our goal is always: empowered health that’s visible, tangible, and lasting.
WOMEN, WELLNESS & THE INDUSTRY GAP
How are you helping to shift the wellness narrative for women?
By showing what’s possible. I reversed alopecia naturally. I improved fertility and had my first baby at 40—on the first try. I’m proof that we don’t have to accept outdated protocols or myths. We can heal, we can grow—literally and figuratively. I now grow an inch of hair a month at age 45. That’s biohacking done right.
What advice would you give women navigating male-dominated wellness or tech spaces?
Before this, I worked at Apple. Being a woman in tech taught me to lead with results and collaboration. My advice? Speak up. Share your perspective. Our differences are our superpowers. Most of us are here to make people healthier—so let’s do it together.
DAILY PRACTICES & OPTIMIZATION
Non-negotiable in your daily routine?
Quality sleep. It’s my best ally.
Most impactful biohack or habit?
Quitting alcohol. I stopped over six years ago, and it was a game-changer. Even as a casual drinker, I saw a huge difference in energy, sleep, and long-term brain health.
VISION FOR THE FUTURE
What’s your bigger mission?
To help people around the world heal from hair loss—naturally, affordably, and without barriers.
Where do you see biohacking and female health in 5–10 years?
I hope we shift research and protocols to truly reflect women’s health realities. From conception to menopause, we need more tools, more access, and more precision. Biohacking allows us to customize health—and that’s the future. I want to see it applied across all life stages: fertility, pregnancy, postpartum, perimenopause and beyond.
FAST FIRE ROUND
Favorite wellness tools?
Sunshine, grounding, PEMF, sauna, ozone, HBOT.
Most underrated secret?
Giving blood! I’ve donated since I was 18.
Biohacking myth you want to bust?
Hair transplants and minoxidil are not biohacking. They’re surgery and meds, not root-cause healing.
Motto you live by?
“You are unlimited potential—keep going.”
